Russian agency blocks access to CIA, FBI websites for spreading false information

The Russian communications watchdog, Roscomnadzor, has restricted users’ access to the websites of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for spreading false information.

Roscomnadzor’s service, which provides data on any restrictions of access to websites and web pages, reported on Friday that access from Russia had been limited to the websites at www.cia.gov and www.fbi.gov., and some websites for spreading inaccurate information, according to Tass news agency.

“Roscomnadzor has restricted access to some resources that are owned by government organizations of hostile countries for dissemination of materials that are aimed at the destabilization of the social and political situation in Russia,” the agency said in a statement.

Russia has been engaged in a special military operation in Ukraine since February last year, with Western countries taking the opposite side and giving Kiev all-out financial, military, and intelligence support.

In the meantime, the US government has been designated by many as the world’s “greatest propagator of disinformation.”

Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed just last month that all social media platforms worked in collaboration with the US government.

Following his purchase of the giant social media platform, Musk published documents proving that Twitter had conspired with the FBI, CIA, Pentagon, and other US government agencies to control information on a range of issues including the war in Ukraine.

“*Every* social media company is engaged in heavy censorship, with significant involvement of and, at times, explicit direction of the government,” Musk tweeted.

China also described the US government as “the biggest lie maker,” after an article published on the US Department of State website accused Beijing of helping Russia produce propaganda against Ukraine.

“The United States accused China of helping Russia spread false information, which itself is a typical form of false information,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said.

“The United States fabricated such an article, which once again proves that the United States deserves its name as the biggest lie maker,” Zhao said.

“From the so-called ‘genocide’ to the Wuhan virus, from the hacker attacks to the overseas military bases, the United States has done too much to smear China,” he added.
